Week 5 of TWOC: HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS

This post is not about this picture, unless maybe the gown that Kalyn is wearing was made by my Grandma. It's just a picture that I like from when the kids were little.
It's Week 5 of Keelie's 12 Weeks of Christmas, and this week's theme is

Homemade Gifts!

All of my life, until September 1998, I received the best homemade gifts of clothes, made with love by my "Grandma Orr". She sewed for me and gave me clothes all year long, just because, but my gifts from her at Christmas, were special clothes that she had made for me. She also made us all quilts. and she crocheted, too. She made lots of special dresses and jumpers for Kalyn. She made clothes for the boys, too. She even made boxers for the men and boys. Some of my favorite memories are of my mom, aunt and I were clothes modeling the clothes she had made for us.

She bought me a sewing machine, but sadly, I still have not learned how to sew. . .or crochet. . .or quilt. My husband would love it if I could do any of those things, like our Grandmas. When she was still alive, she still had hope for me, because she said she was in her 30s when she learned to sew. Then, she worked at a sewing factory for many years.


Twenty years ago, I took ceramic classes, and I made some really nice Christmas ceramics, one for us, and one for my Mother-in-law. I was proud of them, but I didn't continue to do ceramics.

One year, that would be almost 20 years ago, too. . .I covered the backs of handmirrors with fabric, and they made nice Christmas gifts for the women in my family.

Seven years ago, when I had been diligent in my prayer journaling for all of my family all year long, I began at Thanksgiving, copying my prayers for my husband, my parents, my brothers, my sister-in-law and my mother-in-law in a journal for each of them.
At my parents house that year, I had all of them open up their gift at the same time, and they all appreciated their journal.


I would like to make something really special for each of my family members this year, but I have no idea what!!! Maybe I will get an idea soon.
