SPIRITUAL SUNDAY-to KNOW HIM

While my son is gone on a mission trip, I am finding myself going to his closet to borrow a t-shirt to wear to feel closer to him.

The one I chose today was a pretty green color with yellow print. It said

Yada: "Hebrew for To Know Him".

As I was taking the t-shirt off to change into something else, I realized it didn't really make me close to Jase. It did make feel a little closer to him, but didn't get me there.

My husband and I are going to go out on a date, but can't until Jase's blog post is up. It actually did come up, just a minute ago, and reading Jase's words do make us feel closer to him. His post disappeared for some reason, before I got a chance to copy and paste it, so it reminded me how important it is to quickly memorize what he wrote. I hope his words reappear on the blog site very soon.

Day 1: "Wow! Very diverse culture. Opportunity to have a conversation with a Missionary. I am expecting Father to do extraordinary work. "

Day 2: "Don’t really know how to explain the day. A lot of teaching from a Missionary this morning. Experienced some of the culture today through prayer walking. Also, had an awesome, door-opening experience at a mosque."
Day 3: "Long day of great prayer walking. Had the opportunity to see the inside of a Catholic church. I believe Father opened a door at a fruit market. We ate curry made by a local. Thank you for the generous blessings!"
I am so excited about what God is doing in His life, and can't wait to sit with him and listen to him tell us all about it!

This reminds me. . .

Sometimes wearing a cross or a Christian t-shirt makes us feel closer to God.

Reading His word definitely helps us to know Him.

Memorizing His word helps us to know Him.

Sitting awhile with Him, spending time listening to Him, letting His Word speak to us, and having a conversation with Him is how we really get to Know Him.
Do you Know Him?

A Conversation with God...
Yada’ is the Hebrew word for: "to know in a relational sense, to recognize and to be acquainted with." Yahweh, or more correctly, Yahuweh, is God’s name. His personal and proper name means "I Am," and "I Exist." Therefore, Yada Yahweh is an invitation "to know Yahweh" and "to understand our existence." For these things, there is but one place to turn. (His Word to us)

  9. And how can we know more things about God when we don't draw ourselves near to Him? Great post! That's awesome that your son is willing to be His instrument! God bless and protect you all.

  10. I can so identify with your post after raising three sons--I know you can hardly wait to talk about it to him face to face.

Face to face, that is when we really will be awestruck by who He is--Yes, I know Him but I want to know Him better.

Thank you for a lovely post.

  12. Some of my children and their friends have been blessed to go on several mission trips over the past 15 years. God has always used them and the trips in such blessed ways, and always used the trips to dig me even deeper in His Word as I spent so much extra time praying for them, praying for their teams' needs, and praying for Him to work in and through it all. It's been a couple of years since the last trip, but we are still blessed to see God's blessings "rippling on" to this day.

I pray you will continue to be blessed and comforted and encouraged as you, too, continue to see God's outpouring on Jase and his team. And thank you for sharing such an encouraging devotional in and through this - yet another sweet ripple.

  13. You have a gift for using the everyday things of life to illustrate the deep things of God. I sense your heart is hungry for the Lord in His fullness. A sister after my own heart. Thank you for the great post. It lifted me up. God bless, Bobbi

  18. Thanks for sharing today. Enjoyed my visit here. And Prov. 3:5-6 were my chosen year verses for 2010. An oldie but yet the one that fit our family for this particular year. I agree with you about reading His word..Intimacy can only occur where the communion and conversation are coming from both sides. Reading God's Word seems like a Christian chore or "must have quiet time" to check off the things to do for so many people.
When I sit down and read because I desire to hear what God is saying to my spirit, it is then that sweet closeness occurs with my Lord. Now THAT is relationship. :-)
My son has been on mission trips too and I know how you feel. He is preparing for one to Africa coming up. It is hard to let go, but that is what my post was all about, yes?- speaking to myself.
When my hubby was in Ohio for 8 months because he had to go there for work, I used to do the same thing with a shirt of his. Sometimes I would go in his closet and shut the door and just inhale to try and "smell" something of him. (women......) :-)
    God's Blessings upon you today!

  19. Thank you for sharing your "mother's heart" with us. I believe God gave us such deep feelings for our children so that we would never cease to pray for them, and bring them before His throne of grace. What a wonderful calling!

You are right, putting on a Christian shirt or wearing a cross doesn't make us a Christian or bring us any closer to God...but in a sense we
"wear" Him all the time - within our hearts. So everything in our hearts; every child, every care, every longing or desire, is right there in His presence, being tended to by the Great I Am!

    We are so blessed!
