I've got this post in my mind that I'm going to try to get to come out right.
The first lesson I've learned in 2011 is
Not to put shrimp tails down the disposal!
You may have already known not to do that, but I did it, and it has been a real headache to my husband, but he is being calm about it, and is taking care of it, hopefully. So today, no cooking the soup in the crockpot and making more messy dishes.
When trying to make an analogy out of this, this is what it means to me:
There are some things that can be "put down the disposal" and go away, but there are some things that just need to be put in the trash and taken away completely, so that there is no chance it comes back up. Some things can be processed and thought about and then they're gone, but some things just need to be forgotten.
The second thing I've learned is that there seems to be a new trend of NOT setting New Year's Resolutions or even goals, but to find our God Given Purpose.
I know that my God Given Purposes are to glorify God as I strive to be the best
wife, mom, daughter, sister, in-law, friend, teacher (or teacher's assistant), employee, neighbor, mentor, blogger that I can possibly be.
I know that to do that I need to
renew my mind daily;
take care of my physical body;
live with others in peace;
reach out to others;
speak kind words always;
and throw out the "shrimp tails"!
Psalm 25:1a,4-7NIV
To You, O Lord,
I lift up my soul,
in You, I trust, O my God,
Show me your ways, O Lord,
teach me your paths,
guide me in Your truth and teach me,
for You are God, my Saviour,
and my hope is You all day long.
Remember, O Lord,
your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth,
and my rebellious way,
according to Your love,
remember me,
for You are good, O Lord.
Can you relate to anything I've written today? What's on your mind as you begin 2011? I'd love to hear from you!
Sandy, what a great post! March of 2010 found me understanding that I should NEVER dump anything of a 'YEASTY' nature down the commode. My sweet husband spent the night of our 38th wedding anniversary unclogging our toilet! His attitude was so kind...which made me feel even worse. So, I could truly relate to the analogy you did in your post today. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love analogies:) On my mind for 2011--Grace, God's Will, Perseverance, Freedom!! If any of those end up being my theme for 2011 I am in good shape I reckon;)Going to try to get back in the hobby of blog reading. Always love to read what you have to share.
